Gayle and Jim Saner
We’re Gayle and Jim Saner, and we’ve lived in Landmark Estates in Warren, Michigan, for just over a year.
We were living in an RV in our daughter’s backyard so we could help her with the kids, but we had a fire that destroyed our camper. We moved here because it was what we could afford. We’ve got a nice group of neighbors around us that we get along with well.
When we bought our home, lots of the damage to it was camouflaged. The seller told us that the roof had been fixed by management after a tree fell on it, but the roof leaks everywhere. The bathroom floor was rotted through and the whole bathroom had to be gutted. Then it got cold, and we found out the furnace didn’t work.
We couldn’t get help fixing it up because Landmark Estates wouldn’t give us the title, despite us living here for over a year. No one will help you fix up your home if you can’t prove you own it.
We did what we could ourselves, but a huge portion of our income goes to lot rent. We have a working toilet, but no sink or shower in the bathroom. Worst of all, we froze all winter without a working furnace.
When our credit card was stolen and we told the manager we’d be a little late with the lot rent, they filed for eviction in less than a week.
There are good people in this community, just trying to get by. We deserve a place that is run right and maintained. We don’t even know who the owner of the park is. We need an owner who is responsible enough to show their face, and we need laws that protect people like us and our neighbors.
